Review: KVD Lock-It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer

kat von d lock it color correcting eyeshadow primer

Today I have a review on the Kat Von D Lock-It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer. Kat Von D has an entire ‘Lock-It’ line with foundation, concealer, powder and primer. I was interested in trying this eye primer as it’s color (or ‘colour’ for us Canadians) correcting. I’ve tried a few primers such as the ones from Urban Decay and Nars, and definitely wanted to see how this compared!

Overview:

A strong option for those with discoloured and oily lids, but a bit hard to blend.

Price:

$33 CAD

Rating:

8/10

Would I Buy Again?

Yup!

Rambling Review:

The best way I can describe this primer is that it’s similar to a stick concealer. It comes in a twist up tube with a removable sharpener at the end (which I only recently discovered). I don’t think you’ll really need the sharpener as you don’t really need to be super precise with an eye primer.

This primer comes in 5 colours from Fair to Deep. With concealer or foundation I would say that this probably isn’t enough but since it’s an eye primer, I don’t think you really need to be exact with the colour match. I chose ‘Light’ and it’s a pretty good match.

I’ve been using this primer for a couple of months now and I actually really like it! I’ll have to say that I’m a pretty specific market for eye primers. I have oily lids, but I notice that my eyeshadows never really crease on me. It might have something to do with the shape of my eye. I usually like to wear eye primer just to extend the longevity and shadows just feel so much nicer with a primer below. I also have quite dark eyelids. With all of these things being said, this primer worked great for me. It’s very very dry which makes it stick to my lids. With it being so dry though, it’s pretty hard to blend. I would definitely recommend doing one eye, blending, and then doing the other eye. This way, it doesn’t set too fast.

All in all, I like the colour correcting properties with this and find my shadows look nicer with this below it. Just remember to blend fast!

Thanks so much for reading! Hope you have an awesome day!

    1. Yeah I definitely wouldn’t go for this if you don’t have oily lids just cause the formulation would be much too dry. Thanks so much Shireen!!

  1. Sounds pretty good! I cannot live without a good eye base, I’m soooo oily! The MAC Prep + Prime base is my current favorite, just purchased a new tube so I have a backup in stock.

  2. Thanks for the review; I like tinted primers a lot cause my eyelid has a darker colour than my skin! I love Kat Von D products and I need to dig around her stuff a bit more! Nice that they included a sharpener inside!

    1. Mine too! Makes me always look so much more tired than I actually am. I agree I LOVE Kat Von D stuff! She has such a wide range of products that I’d like to try!
