Review: NYX Beauty School Dropout in Graduate + Swatches

Some time ago, I got the chance to go to a NYX Prom event (which you can read about here). The theme was done impeccably and we got the chance to take home a backpack with some goodies. One of the said goodies was the Beauty School Dropout palette in Graduate. The palette is massive with 35 eye shadows, 2 contour powders, 2 highlighting powders and 3 blushes. I’ve had a chance to play around with the powders and am definitely ready to give you my opinion on them!

The Graduate palette is the ‘middle’ version of the Beauty School Dropout line. There is also Freshman (a tad smaller in size) and Alumni (a tad larger in size). Each palette has different shadows and shades and Graduate was the palette that actually appeals to me the most.

There is a nice mix of neutrals and brights. I don’t have any large palettes like this one and found it a bit different to use. I don’t have much vanity space and usually hold my palettes while I’m using them. I definitely found with this palette hard to do that!

This palette is a great way for me to step out of my comfort zone by introducing colours. In general the shadow quality is good, with some being better than others. The metallics are smooth and buttery while I found some of the matte shades a bit chalky.

Swatches

Here are the swatches of the palette starting with the eyeshadows and the last swatch of the face powders:

I’m not a huge fan of the face powders actually. The bronzers seem a bit too orange for skin tone and the blush and highlighter formulation is a bit patchy for me.

With this being said though, this is definitely a palette I can recommend. For the price (it retails for $38 CAD on the NYX website), I think this is a great investment. I don’t have a Costal Scents, Morphe, or other big colour palette in my collection and this fits the bill. There are definitely enough smooth, useable colours to make up for the few that don’t have the best pigmentation.

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

  1. I like how they made it look like a notebook! I’m never into buying huge palettes though cause I know I will never use it that much! Really liking that olive green shadow!!

  2. The pigmentation is a little on the sheerer side but I don’t mind it as I can slowly build it up. I love how much products you get in this palette but I’m with you on the bronzers, those are oompa loompa kind of shades.

    1. It’s definitely a great deal! I haven’t tried the coastal scents or big morphe palettes, but this is definitely comparable with maybe more!
