Haul: Grad Picture Necessities

Wow so I have been haul-ing quite a bit lately. My wallet is crying. ;_; To tell you the truth, I didn’t really want to buy a new foundation. If I can go to IMATs, I was actually hoping to purchase this there as  know it is cheaper. Unfortunately desperate times call for desperate measures!

The day before my grad pictures, I was doing my makeup and I was thinking about what I should do for them foundation-wise. It then dawned on me that I really don’t have a foundation without SPF in it. How convenient, haha. So I thought I should head out to Sephora to see what I could rustle up.

They did the Colour IQ on me to see what would work. This is my 3rd time doing the Colour IQ and unfortunately my results were as dismal as prior times. I think I had 4 matches and they weren’t exact matches either. The girl who was helping me seemed pretty knowledgeable though. Her recommendation was the MUFE HD with a Sephora pressed powder to mattify and darken if need be. After about 40 minutes in Sephora I ended up getting both.

And that’s my story of the day. :p The funny thing is that I’ve tried samples of the MUFE HD (in this colour) awhile ago. It worked out okay then, but the colour match was throwing me for a bit of a loop and I felt like I would get very oily throughout the day. Hopefully the powder will definitely help with this!

With these purchase I also made VIB status. Shiny card….

Also, this month is my birthday month so I was able to pick up my birthday gift. It’s funny, because my birthday is so late in the year, you have to wait a while to pick up your birthday gift that they release in January. Soon enough Sephora will be releasing the birthday gift for next year!

1. Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation in 120

Price:  $49 CAD

So this is the foundation I ended up getting for my grad photos. Multiple sales associates said that this was the best choice for any HD photoshoots or video shoots. So far I’m liking it, but I still do find I get oily in my T-zone throughout the day. I also find if you are a bit heavy handed, then it can look really cakey. I do have to admit, my grad pictures turned out great! Now I don’t need to pay an extra fee for retouching…haha. That price tag though…*dies*

2. Sephora Collection 8 Hr Mattifying Compact Foundation

Price: $27.50 CAD

So far I’m liking this as well. My other pressed powder is very old (but still decent enough I guess) so it was nice to switch it up a bit. When the associate at Sephora was helping me, she suggested this or a loose powder by MUFE. I asked her which one was cheaper and she told me it was this one. After spending so much on the foundation I was inclined to go towards the cheaper one. πŸ™‚ I’ve never used this as a full face foundation, I would be interested to try that out. Right now I have just been using a very slight amount in my T-zone to control oil.

3. Birthday Gift!

Price: Free for Beauty Insiders!

I can’t wait to try out the lipstick!! πŸ™‚ Not a fan of mascara in general so I will probably give it away.

I’m curious to see how the MUFE foundation will do during the winter as my skin gets a lot drier. I guess time will tell.

Thanks for reading, have a wonderful day!

  1. Congrats on getting ready to graduate and happy birthday! When I was getting ready to take grad pictures I bought the exact same foundation haha, and I love how smooth my skin looked in pictures, great choice!! πŸ˜€ I have the same powder too which is great for touchups!

  2. Yeah, ERGH at how steep that foundation price is. It's the only reason why I haven't picked it up, L O L πŸ™
BUT WAIT, YOU NEVER POWDER YOUR FACE??? I actually used to skip it too, but this year, I got into it, and it's become second nature, haha.

  3. Yeah man…it was hard…especially because oz wise it's a lot less then lots of drugstore foundations. D:

nono! I do powder my face! Or I would look like a little oil ball running around. Haha. I've had my pressed powder for probs 3 or 4 years? I don't even think i'm close to hitting pan either (even though it's all cracked and stuff). It's a Maybelline Dream Powder I think? I like it cause it makes my face look really airbrushed, but I find it doesn't really mattify. πŸ™

  4. Thank you so much Whitney! πŸ™‚ OMG! Haha what are the chances! πŸ™‚ I'm glad you like them, makes me feel a bit more validated in my purchase. πŸ˜‰

  5. OH MY GOD I HAVE THE SAME STUPID MAYBELLINE POWER because I heard it was amazing/perf/flawless on Makeup Alley, BUT THE LIES. I feel like it barely does anything, lol

  6. Haha! Yeah I like reading blog reviews more then Makeup Alley actually. I used to turn to them a lot, but as you said, I find that sometimes reviews get skewed.

And I'm such as spazz, I have a Maybelline Mineral Power Powder. :p I swear it was the dream powder though…lol

  7. HD foundation is a god sent for events, but it's really cakey. I hate it. Since it's so expensive, you'd think it'd be like silk!

  8. I noticed actually that this one is okay! I've been using my Real Techniques buffer brush and it's been looking really good. Funny enough, my beauty blender was not having anything of it! I think it sheers it out too much which makes me apply more and then it gets cakey. πŸ™

  9. You're totally right! It may be my brush / blender that's making it cakey. I've been using a brush and I find it builds too much in certain areas, may need to switch. Makes sense!

  10. I would totally go for it. The one I am using, the Real Techniques one, is really really great. It's pretty affordable, I got 4 brushes for around $20 bucks. πŸ™‚

  11. I never realized that the Sephora birthday gift was the same all year long. I was about to say, ohhh we got the same gift, LOL. You know, I've barely dipped into the pool of high end foundations. My most expensive foundation is by Too Faced – the rest are drugstore. And speaking of oil control, my skin used to be a dry, flaking mess and lately it's all oil. I bought the Rimmel Stay Matte powder that so many people have luck with and I still get shiny after a few hours. I've no idea what to do anymore, loool. My skin is sensitive so trying high end foundations/powders is slightly inconvenient, even with the possibility of samples. πŸ˜›

    Anyways, congrats on your grad pics turning out great! πŸ™‚ You are at the tail-end of school…I can't believe it's been 2 years since I graduated. ;_;

  12. Yeah haha it's funny eh? I always see it released in Jan and have to wait a long time until I can actually try it haha. Honestly, this is the only foundation that I have that is even remotely close to the price. I have been using the Revlon Photo Ready before this one. I do have to admit that I like the MUFE one a lot better, but the price is very off putting.

Wow that's crazy with your skin. Yeah I guess it could be anything, weather, hormones, environmental issues, etc. I've been meaning to try the Stay Matte powder for awhile. Would maybe a primer help? I've been using a little sample of smashbox primer and it's pretty good so far.

Thank you so much! Haha, that was very recently! πŸ˜‰ Time flies!

  13. Thanks Jen! I am honestly loving the lipstick more and more. I'm so surprised how creamy it is and it doesn't dry out my lips throughout the day!
