Event Recap: Dermablend Canadian Launch + Reviews

dermablend

Hello friends! Today I have an exciting post. A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the Canadian launch for Dermablend, a high coverage makeup line. I had not heard of Dermablend before the event, but the brand really intrigued me. The invite was filled with photos of incredible transformations and how people use Dermablend to cover imperfections. The night was both informative and entertaining. and I had a great time!

If you’re like me and had never heard of the brand, here’s some fast facts:

  • The brand was created by an American dermatologist and is #1 dermatologist recommended in the USA
  • The Dermablend name was originally connected to Vichy, but now operates under it’s own entity
  • The line contains liquid foundations, stick foundations, concealers, a setting powder, and a makeup remover
  • Most of the marketing material is related to it’s high coverage usage for hyperpigmentation, acne, birthmarks, scars, tattoos, and more.

One of the highlights of the event was to see the foundation in action. One model had full sleeve tattoos on both arms and a makeup artist was able to completely cover one arm up using the foundation! Pretty incredible.

We got to take home a shade matched bottle of the Smooth Liquid Camo, Loose Setting Powder, and Long Wear Makeup Remover. I was excited to try out the loose setting powder as this was something that the representatives said made the foundation look flawless all day.

First up, a mini review of the Smooth Liquid Camo along with Loose Setting Powder:

This is listed as Dermablend’s medium coverage foundation with an SPF of 25 (which I love). It retails for around $42 which isn’t cheap. I really like the squeeze tube and it’s so small that it would easily travel.

I applied this with a beauty blender and it worked fairly well. It had a bit of a plastic-y smell which wasn’t terrible, but not overtly pleasant either. I would say even with the beauty blender, I had to be careful not to use too much or it would become a bit too cakey.

The first time using this, I used it with the Loose Setting Powder that everyone was raving about at the event ($34).

It was recommended that you use the Loose Setting Powder to bake the foundation. For those that don’t know, ‘baking’ your foundation is putting translucent powder over your foundation for upwards of 10 or 15 minutes and then brushing it off for a flawless finish.

While using the Loose Setting Powder over the Smooth Liquid Camo, it definitely left me with a super flawless finish. I stayed matte pretty much the whole day which is a huge plus for me. The foundation did not break down at all, and I was very very happy with the results.

With this being said, I used this foundation on another occasion in my regular routine and it didn’t work out quite as well. I found it just looked a bit too cakey, didn’t last as long, and I got oily quicker.

All in all, I think the Dermablend line is a great option for those with strong features they would like to cover. I wasn’t able to test this on myself as I don’t have super sever acne or any tattoos. The demonstration on the model at the event was definitely impressive though. I do recommend using the magical Loose Setting Powder with the foundation for the stay-all-day look. It’s a pricey line, but I think it’s worth it to use both in your routine.

Dermablend is being sold at select Shoppers Drug Marts in Canada along with being online on their Beauty Boutique. You can read more about the Dermablend products on their website.

Thanks so much for reading! Hope you have a great day!

    1. Yeah I like the glowy look too (but my oily skin not so much)! We missed you Andy! Hope to see you soon! Congrats on the print shop launch! Looks great!

  1. I haven’t heard of them until they started popping up on blogs; did not know another brand was connected to vichy and guess they must be doing super well to be on its own now!!
