First Impressions: Full Face of Foil Samples

Full Face of Samples

Hi friends! Anyone else have an ever expanding collection of foil samples? Mine are definitely getting unruly, so I thought I would try something fun. I noticed that I had the right samples to do a full face, so I thought I would give it a try. When I use foil samples I usually use them one at a time (when I remember). This seemed like a good way to cut down on my samples but also try some new products all at once.

Moisturizer: Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment

I’ve had this sample for some time and have been putting it off just because I don’t have dry skin. I was pleasantly surprised though as it didn’t over hydrate my skin and make me feel greasy. Looking at the full sized though, for $70 I think I’m gonna pass.

Primer: Black Up Perfect Mattifying Primer

This is one of my newer samples and I was excited to try it! It’s a very similar consistency to the Smashbox Photo Finish primer (i.e. silicon based). I liked the feel of this, but I felt my face feeling a bit ‘full’ of product just because I think I used a bit too much of this. I would be interested in trying this again though, as these primers are usually up my alley.

Repurchase: Maybe

Foundation: Milk Sunshine Skin Tint in Light

I was pleasantly surprised with this foundation. It’s similar to a BB cream with pretty decent coverage. The only thing I found was the shade was a bit too light. The next shade up, Sand, seemed too dark though! Darn!

Repurchase: Probably not (due to colour)

Concealer: Anastasia Beverly Hills in 0.75

This concealer packed a punch! This is a pretty deluxe sample and it even came with a little concealer brush. This concealer is extremely thick and covered everything! You can go overboard really easy with this and a little goes a long way! I liked this concealer, but not a fan it’s in a pot and not a tube.

Repurchase: Maybe

Powder: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light

I’m a huge fan of Hourglass, but this powder not so much. For the price, I find it doesn’t really do anything. It doesn’t really mattify, it doesn’t really provide a glow, it just is. I have this in my Hourglass palette actually and it stays pretty unused.

Repurchase: No

Blush: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Light

This actually isn’t marketed really as a blush but I was very happy how it ended up looking. This provided a very natural glow to the cheeks without fear of going too heavy handed! As expensive as these powders are, I can actually see myself using this one!

Repurchase: Maybe

Highlighter: Lancome Click & Go Highlighting Skin Fluid in Lumières D’Or Rose

Liquid highlighters are the new ‘in thing’ and Lancome is getting on that train. It’s hard to tell from a foil packet, but I liked the effect this gave on the skin. It was nothing mind blowing, but still pretty. I found there were some noticeable glitter in it which was a bit meh.

Repurchase: Probably not

Lip Balm: BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Champagne

I’m a huge fan of the regular BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask, so I was curious about the tinted variety. For this one specifically, I found that Champagne was really close to clear. In the foil packet it had a much more rosey tone, but when spread on the lips it’s practically clear. I’m not complaining though! It’s still definitely my fave intensive lip treatment ever!

Repurchase: Always

With all of it on my face, this is how it looked:

I tried to bronze my face a bit because the foundation was so light. I look a bit shiny too just because I didn’t powder. All in all pretty decent for a bunch of products I had no idea how they would perform!

Do you have an immense amount of foil samples like I do? What are some good ways you’ve found to use them up?

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

  1. This is such a great way to use samples! I have so many – including those hourglass powder ones. I wasn’t too excited about them and now with your review I definitely don’t have high hopes. Still excited to try some of my other samples!

  2. I love this idea for a post and might just do one for myself. That said, I usually give away my foil samples because I trade a lot of my beauty products. I am not familiar with the brand Black Up, are they new?

    1. Yes pleaseeeee! If you do one, please link me! I’d love to see it! To my knowledge Black Up is a newer brand targeted to women of colour, I’ve only seen it in store at one Sephora, but available online!

    1. Right? They just sit there and you lose them, and then meh. Thanks Nicole! Yes, the Agave Lip Masks are soooooo good! Highly recommend!
