First Impressions: Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette + Swatches

One of the most surprising presents I received this holiday season was from my friend and fellow beauty lover Leah. She’s gotten on that Huda Beauty train, but I haven’t looked too much into her products. Of course I’ve heard the hype, and her lip kits, palettes, and foundation look to be getting rave reviews. The Huda Beauty Desert Dusk palette is a beauty collection of golds, oranges, purples and red. I was so excited to start playing around with it!

The palette is definitely hefty with 18 shades. The pans are a decent size but the palette itself isn’t huge so I would consider this a nice choice for travel. It’s housed in a traditional cardboard packaging which means it’s pretty light and easy to store. It also has a very large mirror which is always a plus (it’s behind the plastic eye overlay in my picture above).

The colours themselves are stunning. There’s a good mix of mattes, shimmers, metallics, and even a loose glitter! I would say this has familiar colours, but at the same time original and unique enough to warrant it in your collection. My favourite colours are Twilight, Turkish Delight, and Royal. Can you tell I like shimmers? As beautiful and unique as Cosmo is, the colour itself didn’t fully speak to me. I actually have never seen a pressed glitter like this. It’s definitely original and I’m curious to see if other brands will start to do this more.

Swatches

Swatch wise, I would have to say the 2nd row is my favourite. The mattes I would say were the weakest part of this palette. They aren’t as good as Modern Renaissance or Kat Von D Shade and Light, but I would say they get the job done.

Eye Look

The looks that you can get from this palette I would say are mostly on the glam side. You can go full glam or ‘mini glam’ as I’d like to say. The look I created (in my opinion) is more of a wearable look with a bit of a shimmer.

I used Twilight on the lid, Royal in the outer corner, and Amethyst in the crease.

All in all I think this is a great palette. The original shades (especially the duo chromes) are worth the hefty $85 dollar price tag. You can create a lot of nice looks with this and if you have the money, it’s definitely worth your time!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

    1. I would say yes and no. I think the quality on this is pretty high for the palettes that I’ve tried at least. The mattes are the weakest, but I still think worth it. I think i’ll be getting some good use out of it, so for me worth it! 🙂 But if the colours don’t speak to you, then probably not worth it. 🙂
