Versus: Drugstore Eye Makeup Removers (NYX, Neutrogena, Marcelle)

best drugstore eye makeup removers

One thing that I think the drugstore has an abundance of is eye makeup removers. They’re a staple pretty much through all drugstore skin brands, but how do they actually fair up to high end ones? I have three that I put to the test. I’ve used one before (Neutrogena), and the other two are new to me.

I wanted to pick up a popular one that I’ve heard about for this review and instantly thought of Marcelle. I think (due to my noob-ness), I didn’t buy the right Marcelle one that everyone raves about. So instead you’re getting a review of the Instant Eye Makeup Remover instead of the Gentle Eye Makeup Remover (maybe a future versus to figure out what the heck the difference between those two are…?). I’ve tried quite a few eye makeup removers so I have a pretty solid base on what I like and what I don’t like! Here we go!

Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover

I’ll start off with the one I’ve tried. The Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover is one of the most popular in the drugstore in my opinion. You can get it from Walmart for around $10 CAD. I’ll start off by saying that this one works well. It definitely requires minimal rubbing and with around one swipe, you can get that hard to remove liquid liner / waterproof makeup off in the jiffy. The one thing I notice about this one is that even with ‘Oil- Free’ front and center, this actually has a very oily/ greasy feel after use. It’s not a huge deal, but not really a comfortable feeling either.

NYX Eye & Lip Makeup Remover

Next up is the NYX Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. I bought this on a whim when I was in a NYX freestanding store one day. It’s around the same price at $10 CAD but the bottle is much smaller than the Neutrogena at 80 mL compared to 162 mL (massive difference). I’ll start by saying I don’t recommend this at all. I found that it just didn’t work as well as the other two. I found myself rubbing quite hard to get liquid liner and eyeshadow off which is DEFINITELY not good for the sensitive eye area. I feel like I’ll finish this up using it on my lips so I can be a big more generous on the rubbing. Save your money and don’t bother with this one.

Marcelle Instant Eye Makeup Remover Waterproof Oil Free

Marcelle Instant Eye Makeup Remover Waterproof Oil Free

Last but not least is Marcelle Instant Eye Makeup Remover Waterproof Oil Free. This is the most expensive option at around $15 CAD. I would say this definitely gets the job done. I don’t feel myself tugging or pulling to remove stubborn eye makeup, and it doesn’t leave a greasy feel to they eyes which is great. The only thing is the price differential on this one. Is the feeling of a non-greasy eye worth $5? You can be the judge of that I guess.

Verdict

I would say that Neutrogena and Marcelle both are kind of tied for me. Even though Neutrogena gives that greasy feel, the price on it is much better than the Marcelle. Both work well though and I felt all my makeup was removed.

The NYX one was a dud unfortunately! I don’t say that a lot with NYX just because I think they’re one of the strongest drugstore brands around, but this unfortunately wasn’t up to snuff!

Do you have any eye makeup removers that you swear by? Any recos for me?

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
